Most expensive football transfers

 1. Gareth Bale - Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid (100 million euros).

The 2013 summer transfer window's longest-running saga finally ended on September 1 when Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid for a world transfer record fee of 100 million euros.

The fee eclipses the previous record of 94 million euros that Real paid for Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009.
Bale scored 42 goals in 146 matches for Spurs; and was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year, the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards for his brilliant performances for the White Hart Lane club in the 2012-13 season.


2. Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United to Real Madrid (94 million euros).
Ronaldo was welcomed by between 80,000 and 85,000 fans at his presentation at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on July 6, 2009.

Ronaldo, who scored 84 goals in 196 matches for Manchester United, has already become a Real Madrid legend.


3. Angel Di Maria - Real Madrid to Manchester United (75 million euros).

The Argentine became the most expensive player in British football history after signing a five-year deal at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old will wear the club's famous No7 shirt previously worn by George Best, Eric Cantona and


4. Zinedine Zidane - Juventus to Real Madrid (73.5 million euros).

The legendary attacking midfielder joined Real Madrid in 2001 and scored the match-winning goal against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final.

The next season, Zidane helped Real Madrid to win the 200203 La Liga and was named the FIFA World Player of the Year for the third time. Zidane scored 37 goals in 155 matches for Real Madrid.


5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Inter Milan to Barcelona (69.5 million euros).

The Swedish striker was presented to a crowd of over 60,000 at Camp Nou on July 27, 2009.

Ibrahimovic, however, didn't share the best of relationships with then Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, despite scoring 16 goals in 29 matches in the only season that he played for the La Liga club.


6. Kaka - AC Milan to Real Madrid (65 million euros).

The Brazilian attacking midfielder joined Real Madrid on June 30, 2009.

Kaka had scored 70 goals in 193 matches for AC Milan.


7. Edinson Cavani - Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain (64.5 million euros).

The Uruguayan striker joined PSG on a five-year contract on July 16, 2013. Cavani scored 78 goals in 104 matches for Napoli.


8. Radamel Falcao - Atletico Madrid to AS Monaco (60 million euros).
On 31 May 2013, Monaco announced they had reached an agreement with Atletico for a transfer. Falcao signed a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around 60 million euros, with his net annual salary at Monaco being reported to be around 14 million euros.

Falcao scored 52 goals in 67 matches for Atletico Madrid.


9. Luis Figo - Barcelona to Real Madrid (60 million euros).

The legendary Portugese midfielder joined Barcelona's bitter rivals in 2000. Figo played 172 matches for Barcelona and scored 30 goals.

Figo's arrival signalled the beginning of Florentino Perez's "Galactico era". With Madrid, Figo won La Liga in 2001 and 2003 as well as the 200102 Champions League.


10. Fernando Torres - Liverpool to Chelsea (58.5 million euros).

The Spanish striker set a new record for a British transfer when he completed his move to Chelsea on a five-and-a-half-year contract on 31 January 2011.

Torres scored 65 goals in 102 matches for Liverpool.
